British Airways and Virgin Atlantic announce huge flight changes as travel ban ends

British Airways and Virgin Atlantic have announced huge changes to their flight schedules - with trips from the UK to the US back on.

The airlines said the runway is ready for fully-vaccinated travellers from November - with return deals starting from £319.

It comes after the White House confirmed it would welcome back doubled-jabbed UK travellers after an 18-month blanket ban during the pandemic.

From November, travellers will be allowed to fly into the US if they are fully vaccinated, and undergo testing and contact tracing.

British Airways reopened booking last night with a flash sale on flight ending on Tuesday, with return deals to New York from £320 and Los Angeles from £349.

The airline wrote on its website: "From November, the USA is relaxing its travel rules for fully vaccinated passengers from the UK. Our sale ends at midnight on 21 September so book a great flight deal now."

Virgin Atlantic also launched a one-day sale, with deals to Florida from £324 and trips to the Big Apple starting at £319.

The airline reported its site briefly crashed at around 4pm yesterday as people scrambled tried to book flights to popular locations including Washington and Las Vegas.

It tweeted: "The US is runway ready. America is reopening from November for fully vaccinated travellers from the UK, and we can’t wait to fly you there."

The announcement is a major boost for airlines such as British Airways and Virgin Atlantic as well as airports.

They have repeatedly blamed the travel ban for limiting the recovery of passenger numbers during the virus crisis.

It comes as the US yesterday announced it would be ending the UK travel ban after a 18-months - something which ex-President Donald Trump enforced at the start of the pandemic.

The move means Brit and American families and friends separated by the restrictions can finally be reunited.
