BritBox Expands American Lineup With New Thriller And Crime Drama

The British-centric subscription streaming service BritBox has picked up two new series for the American version of the service.

Tom Mison (Sleepy Hollow) and Janet Montgomery (New Amsterdam) star in The Ex-Wife, a psychological thriller which will premiere on the service August 10th.

“In the series, a young woman feels like she is living the dream with a perfect house, a loving husband and a beautiful daughter until her husband’s ex-wife shows up and refuses to leave them alone. It is based on Jess Ryder’s book of the same name,” said the report.

The series is licensed by BritBox International from All3Media International and produced by Clapperboard Studios, BlackBox Multimedia and Night Train Media for Paramount+ in association with All3Media International.

BritBox is an online digital video subscription service, founded by BBC studios and ITV operating in nine countries across North America, Europe, Australia and South Africa. It is focused on British television series and films, mainly featuring current and past series and films supplied from two British terrestrial broadcasters of the BBC and ITV.

Granite Harbour is a British crime drama that centers on ex-RMP officer Davis Lindo, who heads to Aberdeen to train as a detective on the DUO Commonality Scheme. When a high-profile figure is found dead on his first day on the job, he finds himself thrown into the deep end.

Lindo played by Romario Simpson strikes up an unlikely friendship with his mentor, DCI Lara Bart Bartlett, played by Hannah Donaldson. The duo soon find themselves in the middle of a corporate power struggle when a wealthy and notable Aberdonian dies under suspicious circumstances.

The series premiered last December on BBC One and BBC Scotland. It will premiere August 1st on BritBox in the U.S. and Canada. The series has also been licensed to Acorn TV for its services in Australia and New Zealand.

“BritBox provides new episodes to British soaps and dramas such as EastEnders, Coronation Street and Emmerdale, within hours of their UK broadcast via BritBox’s ‘Now’ feature to US and Canadian users, but also includes extensive archives of older programming, such as the popular Doctor Who classic series on the service,” said reports.

 It reported a subscriber base of 250,000 within a year of launching in the US.In 2019, 650,000 subscribers were reported from the North American platform. In early 2020, the number of US and Canadian subscribers surpassed 1 million users to around 1.2 million by August, and 1.5 million by October following strong growth in the North American service due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
