- Rolls-Royce has been named the UK's most iconic trade mark by the British public, according to a survey by the Intellectual Property Office (IPO).
- The luxury car manufacturer, founded in Manchester, was described by respondents as a "worldwide metaphor for the best of the best" and "the mark of quality".
- Surprisingly, Radio Caroline, the pioneering offshore radio station, secured second place, outranking well-known brands such as Twinings, Cadbury, Bass, Burberry, TfL Roundel, Calpol, Mini and the BBC.
- The survey was conducted to commemorate 150 years since the UK's first trade mark, Bass & Co's red triangle label, was registered on New Year's Day in 1876.
- Adam Williams, the IPO's chief executive, emphasised that trade marks are crucial for brand trust and have supported British businesses and innovation for generations.
