Britain’s Paralympians have been labelled history makers after finishing second in the medal table at the Tokyo Games.
ParalympicsGB ended up second only behind China with 41 golds and 124 medals in total as the Games drew to a close on Sunday.
And chef de mission Penny Briscoe said: “It’s been a rollercoaster cycle but here we are after a historic Games for the Paralympic movement and for us at GB.
“It’s been an incredible Games for ParalympicsGB. We’re absolutely delighted with the performance of the team. They have rewritten the history books.”
The medal count was down on the 147 medals, including 64 golds, achieved in Rio de Janeiro but that was put down partially to the return of Russian athletes to Paralympic competition.
Of the British team’s Tokyo achievements, Briscoe added: “The medal total was always going to be difficult in terms of the return of the Russian athletes. But for 18 out of 19 sports to deliver medal success was a phenomenal effort by the team.”
