A Bristol music scene legend who became known as “Britain’s oldest DJ” has gone missing. DJ Derek – Derek Morris – has not been seen for three weeks, according to his family.

Police in the city have launched an appeal to locate the 73-year-old, and Bristol mayor George Ferguson tweeted: “I’m sorry to hear this. DJ Derek is a legend – I’ll do all I can to spread the word across Bristol.”

Avon and Somerset Police said Morris had been reported missing by his family, and that anyone with information as to his whereabouts should call 101.

Morris retired from DJing in 2013 – though he played a one-off show on 31 December 2014 – after building a reputation for playing rocksteady, reggae, ska, dancehall and soul. He had appeared in a Dizzee Rascal video and was admired by Massive Attack.

Geoff Barrow of Portishead tweeted his concern for the veteran DJ.
