'Britain's most hated cyclist' says that he reports 70 drivers a week

A cyclist who has been dubbed 'the most hated' revealed that he reports around 70 motorists a week.

Dave Sherry, who has become notorious for catching motorists, appeared on Good Morning Britain to explain his approach to driving offences.

Mr Sherry, from Essex, wears a body camera on his helmet, on his shoulder and has one on his bike.

Footage from Mr Sherry’s body cameras showed motorists committing a number of offences including using their phones while driving, dangerous and reckless driving - and even one woman eating a bowl of cereal as she drove, NorthWalesLive.

Mr Sherry told GMB hosts Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard that he began his vigilante mission after he was cycling with his child on the back of his bike and a motorist hit the rear of the bike.

He said: “Police said it was my word against his and it didn’t go anywhere.”

Mr Sherry insisted he wants to raise awareness on road safety for cyclists and that he is only targeting a certain kind of person.

He also said he feels no guilt for carrying out his vigilante work.

“I have a meeting with the top guy at prosecutions at Met Police and they’re loving the pro-active approach,” he added.

However, not everyone agrees with this type of vigilante work.

GMB guest Penny Malory, a former British Rally Championship driver, believes this approach is “unhealthy” and “dangerous”.

She said that cyclists should have more accountability on the roads as they cause accidents too.

During the show, Mr Sherry showed some of the footage he had collected including one terrifying clip where a cyclist was hit by a lorry as it drove past him.

Ms Malory added: “Cyclists are 15 per cent more likely to die on the road, it's a dangerous space but you’re not a police officer.”
