'Britain's Hidden Killer' will look at the devastating effects of pancreatic cancer

Pancreatic cancer will be the focus of ITV's Tonight show this evening (Friday, October 15).

Britain's Hidden Killer will look at the devastating effects of the disease and the urgent need for research and funding into early diagnosis.

According to Pancreatic Cancer UK (PCUK), survival rates have barely changed over the past 50 years – while those for other cancers have improved massively.

Half of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer die within three months. And just seven per cent survive beyond five years.

PCUK CEO Diana Jupp will be featured on Tonight, which begins at 8pm.

PCUK says: "Too many people are dying too soon because they are not diagnosed early enough.

"Cutting-edge research can help us make earlier diagnosis a reality and save thousands of lives a year – but pancreatic cancer research has been underfunded for decades.

"We need more funding to give more people a chance of survival. Our researchers are close to developing the first-ever simple test for pancreatic cancer – and we’re calling on the government to invest at least £25m year into pancreatic cancer research."

If you, or a loved one, have been affected by pancreatic cancer – PCUK nurses are here for you. Contact a nurse on the Support Lineon 0808 801 0707 or send an email.
