Hannah Cockroft claimed her third successive T34 100m world championships gold medal in Doha on Thursday. The London 2012 Paralympic double gold medallist won in a championship record time of 17.73sec on the first day of the IPC championships.

The 23-year-old was delighted with her performance, hoping it will set a marker for success at next year’s Paralympic Games in Rio. “I really wanted to hold that 100m title a year out from Rio to send out a warning to show I am still the one to beat,” she said after sealing her victory.

That followed Britain’s first gold medal, when Aled Davies retained his F42 shot put title, with another championship record performance of 14.95m. There was more success for Team GB, with Sophie Hahn setting a new world record as she retained her T38 100m title in 12.60sec, and Kadeena Cox and Georgie Hermitage finishing first and second in the T37 100m. Abbie Hunnisett won bronze in the F32 club throw, with Gemma Prescott missing out in fourth. Samantha Kinghorn also claimed a bronze medal in the T53 200m.
