Britain's Got Talent viewers left 'awkward' as Simon and David clash on-air

David Walliams and Simon Cowell had a slight run-in of sorts during the third live semi-final on Wednesday, and it didn’t go unnoticed.

BGT viewers confessed feeling “awkward” as the judges clashed over a performance on the show.

As Angels Inc from The Netherlands took to the stage, they pulled off an impressive magic act that saw the group multiplying to the point the stage was filled with women from the group.

Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden both said they felt “empowered” by the girls and their powerful performance.

But Simon wasn’t so sure he liked the act, admitting he preferred their audition.

He asked the ladies directly why female viewers at home should vote for them, and what they were trying to show.

It’s then that David aired his view, agreeing with Alesha and Amanda’s view that it was inspiring.

The girls then took to the mic to speak out, with one member admitting they “wanted to show confidence”.

David turned to Simon and shouted: “Get with the programme granddad, this is feminism in 2019.”

Simon appeared unimpressed with his comments, before responding: “I’m not the one who’s voting, smart a**e. Okay?”

Alesha and Amanda gasped, as did the crowd, with viewers taking to Twitter while David looked awkwardly at his fellow judge.

One fan said: “That was so awkward I couldn't even watch!”

Another commented: “Really don’t understand why Simon Cowell feels the need to make every single moment awkward by saying petty little remarks to David all the time?”

Britain’s Got Talent airs live all this week at 7:30pm on ITV.
