Britain's Got Talent sparks Ofcom complaints over Amanda Holden swearing and scary magic trick

Britain's Got Talent's week of live shows, as expected, got off to a spectacularly bonkers start on Monday night - but bosses probably weren't expecting an influx of Ofcom complaints.

The ITV entertainment show could face an investigation by the broadcasting watchdog after viewers complained to the regulator over The Haunting's spooky performance - and Amanda Holden's untimely swearing.

The BGT judge dropped the F word during the live show, which airs pre-watershed, as she was involved in the terrifying magic trick by Elizabeth Best.

According to The Sun , the popular programme attracted 192 complaints - 154 of those relating to Elizabeth's act whilst 38 were regarding Amanda's momentary slip.

An Ofcom spokesperson told the publication: "We are assessing these complaints against our broadcasting rules, but are yet to decide whether or not to investigate."

During the first semi-final of the competition, Amanda was left shook up by the spooky magician for a second time after being involved in the act's trick during the audition rounds.

Elizabeth took the 48-year-old TV star down into the basement of the Hammersmith Apollo theatre to reintroduce her to Agatha and her daughter Florence the ghost.

A terrified Amanda screamed as she was grabbed by Florence before mum Agatha smashed through a mirror and led her back upstairs.

When they appeared on stage, Agatha had transformed into Elizabeth - and Amanda was so scared she let out a four letter expletive as she tried to work out what had happened.

When she headed back to the judge's panel, Amanda apologised profusely for her bad language.

Clearly still shaky, she said: "I really want to apologise for saying a terrible word. I know my kids are watching so I apologise for that. I can honestly say I feel terrified."

Show hosts Ant and Dec and head judge Simon Cowell also apologised for the slip up.

But viewers took to Twitter to express their thoughts on the act.

One said: "Thanks for The Haunting BGT - how many kids are going to have nightmares. Totes inappropriate."

"Personally I think # thehaunting on # BGT was unbelievably cruel and unfair on Amanda. I can truly see myself having a panic attack in that situation. Not a talent just a b***h," said another.

The Haunting failed to make it through to Sunday's final but could claim the wildcard place at the end of the week.

Dave & Finn and Flakefleet Primary School were the first acts to make it through with another eight set to take to the stage tonight when the show returns to ITV at 7.30pm.
