Britain's Got Talent set to launch magicians-themed spin-off 'later this year'

Reports suggest that a Britain's Got Talent spin-off is in development. The special, themed show will focus entirely on the many spectacular magicians spawned by the format across the world.

BGT favourites such as Marc Spelmann (or 'X' as he appeared in 2019) and Richard Jones are set to return, where they will go head to head in a bid to be crowned the 'Got Talent Champion of Magic'. The series will also feature magic acts from elsewhere in the world.

The ITV show, which launched in 2007, doesn't look like it's going anywhere either, as a TV source has revealed: "Simon [Cowell] thinks there's still so much life in the format."

The source continued: “If you look at the ratings, viewers still love the madcap mix of talents. [Simon] sees honing in on a specific theme as a really nice way forward and what better way to start than with magic."

News of the spin-off was first broken by The Sun on Wednesday, August 24. According to the publication, the TV source added: “Of course, if the magical contest is successful when it airs later this year, it paves the way for a raft of themed specials.

“There was talk of a Halloween special after the success of The Witch earlier this year, but that’s not going to happen for 2022. And imagine a contest dedicated entirely to the dog acts - perfection.”

The latest series of Britain's Got Talent, which was once again hosted by Ant & Dec, was won by comedian Axel Blake. Judges Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden and David Walliams joined Simon Cowell on the judging panel. For more showbiz and television stories, get our newsletter here.
