Britain’s Got Talent new studio changes revealed as ITV show introduces virtual audience

Richard Arnold gave Good Morning Britain viewers a sneaky peek at the new Britain’s Got Talent studio ahead of this weekend’s semi-finals launch.

The showbiz journalist told ITV viewers that important changes have been made to the set to make sure that everyone involved in the production will be safe.

He explained that acts and the crew need to stick to social distancing rules, and announced a first for a talent show - a virtual audience made up of viewers will tune in via video call.

As revealed earlier this week, hosting duo Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly are allowed to stand next to each other as they are being regularly tested for COVID-19.

But the judging panel, made up of Amanda Holden - who has replaced Simon Cowell as head judge following his accident - Ashley Banjo, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams will have to sit two metres apart.

"As anyone who has ever worked with David Walliams will know, this is no bad thing," joked Richard.

Ahead of filming, Simon, 60, broke his back after he fell off an electric bike. He is now recovering after undergoing surgery.

Doing a walk around of the studio, Richard continued: “This is what the judges’ desk looks like now.

“It’s been quartered. They have four individual desks so they can sit socially distanced.

“Everyone has been asking, what will these new shiny floor shows look like in the autumn when they return to our screens, long awaited as they are, without an audience?

"Take a look at this giant screen behind me.

"On Saturday night when this show returns you will see 500 mugshots of the nation up there - the first virtual audience on a talent show.

“It's going to look absolutely spectacular.

"So it’s returning looking different but all the bells and whistles and back with a bang."

The semi-finals will air at 8pm on ITV and continue weekly after that.

The BGT final will air later in October.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am.
