Britain's Got Talent most complained about show of last 10 years as Ofcom complaints rocket

Britain's Got Talent is now confirmed to be the most complained about show of the past 10 years after angry viewers have rushed to Ofcom to air their grievances.

Prior to the current series of BGT, the show was well off the radar as far as Ofcom complaints was concerned, with the Roxanne Pallet 'punch' allegations against Ryan Thomas on Celebrity Big Brother and a Loose Women spat leading the list.

The Roxanne scandal attracted 25,327 complaints while Kim Woodburn and Coleen Nolan's infamous clash had 7,912.

But now Britain's Got Talent 2020 is officially the show with the most Ofcom complaints of the last decade, with over 28,000 complaints about the semi-finals in just over a month.

The moment that sparked the biggest number of complaints was Diversity's performance during the first semi-final at the start of September.

The former BGT champion took to the stage for a powerful routine inspired by the coronavirus pandemic and Black Lives Matter, which saw a reenactment of George Floyd's death.

While applauded by many people, the performance also received a huge backlash and has generated 24,500 complaints to broadcasting regulator Ofcom to date although they announced they wouldn't be making any further investigation into it, with the routine also getting the backing of ITV.

Head judge Amanda Holden has also been at the centre of some controversy due to her rather risque outfit choices. Her plunging gown from the September 26 show, which prompted concerns of a wardrobe malfunction, received over 200 complaints and then she also left some viewers angry with the dress she wore last weekend which revealed a lacy corset.

Nabil Abdulrashid has BGT judges roaring with laughter

By Monday evening, the October 3 semi had racked up 892 complaints, with the majority in relation to the stand-up routine from comedian Nabil Abdul Rashid.

Alesha Dixon's Golden Buzzer Act got the judges vote for the final with jokes about race and religion and everyone wearing face masks.

But some of the routine's content did not sit well with viewers at home, with Nabil answering one back when they tweeted about him.

The tweet in question read: "All i saw was anti white racism and sterotyping of people with right wing political views... disgusting @Ofcom please investigate this bias racist propaganda on this show again. @SimonCowell are you not ashamed of what this progamme has become?"

A defiant Nabil responded: "I really hope this guy reported me to ofcom. I’d be heartbroken if I didn’t get some complaints but a dress and a necklace did."
