Britain's Got Talent magician Marc Spellman reveals lengths he went to keep incredible X secret

Britain's Got Talent X magician Marc Spellman has revealed what he had to do to keep his identity a secret.

He stunned the judges and audience during the live final when to reveal he had also appeared on the show last year.

To keep his real identity a secret this year, Marc had enlisted the help of a friend called Colin who talked for him during the auditions and live semi-final and final.

It meant his wife and daughter Isabella were the only other people who knew it was him, and came a complete show for Simon Cowell, the other judges and Ant & Dec.

Speaking on the Lorraine show, he admitted that the judges and Ant & Dec had no idea it was him: "My good friend Colin, who has been following me around everywhere, talking for me. At the auditions, I wouldn't talk to anybody, wouldn't communicate with anybody.

"They had to talk through my assistant Colin. No-one knew.

"My wife knew, and Isabella my daughter knew because I was rehearsing. When you wear a mask and perform you have to rehearse with it on because everything is different. Isabella got used to me walking around with a mask and rehearsing. She thinks everyone in a white mask is her dad."

At the start of the performance there were 10 X’s standing on the stage, before the main one asked Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly to join them on stage.

The presenters had to pick out bits of coloured paper with random memories from X’s life written on them.

X got a lot of words up on the screen and made everyone follow their instructions until they got to to one final word.

They asked everyone who got the word ‘hope’ to stand up - and amazingly the entire audience and all the judges did.

The final has earned ITV its highest overnight ratings of the year so far, viewing figures reveal.

Sunday night's final, which was won by Chelsea Pensioner Colin Thackery, was watched by an average of 8.5 million viewers, ITV said.

The episode, which aired from 7.30pm until 10.15pm, had a peak viewing figure of 10.6 million, a high for ITV for 2019.
