Britain's Got Talent judges stunned by music director's unique talent with a straw

Britain’s Got Talent judges have seen a few novelty acts clutching at straws...

But when music director Hasan Minawi turned up, he managed to get a tune out of one.

In a scene being aired at the weekend, Hasan, 48, had an air of mystery as he walked on stage.

Co-host Ant McPartlin said: “Where’s his instrument?”

Hasan pulled out a drinking straw and played My Heart Will Go On, La Bamba and Scotland the Brave.

Judge Simon Cowell laughed and said: “This is something we weren’t expecting or have seen before.”

A show source said: “He’s been playing the straw for 10 years and was inspired when he asked kids to bring instruments to the school, all but one did.

“The pupil was crying because he didn’t bring one in. Hasan took the straw the child was using for a drink and told him he’d make that into an instrument.

“It worked out well on the day and it has gone from there. Perhaps it will start a craze.”

The show starts with David Walliams and his fellow judges getting to the auditorium on mini motorbikes.

ITV is currently airing the auditions for the current series, which were filmed before the coronavirus lockdown went into place.

Other acts to grace the stage have included dancing Ninja Turtles, a singing lobster, and two kids choirs - both of which reduced Amanda to tears.

One belted out a powerful message about protecting the planet, while another honoured war veterans with a touching VE Day performance.

* Britain’s Got Talent continues on ITV on Saturday at 8pm.
