Britain's Got Talent judges 'left in tears' as Grenfell fire survivor wows with emotional audition

Britain’s Got Talent judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon were reportedly moved to tears when a Grenfell fire survivor auditioned for the ITV talent show.

Leanne Mya, who lived in Grenfell Tower with her partner and young son, impressed the judges with a rendition of Sam Smith’s Lay Me Down at the London Palladium, according to The Sun.

Her performance left the show’s judges feeling emotional, with Cowell praising Mya for her bravery and resilience.

“You should be very proud,” he told the BGT hopeful, who gave evidence at the Grenfell inquiry last year.

Effortless: Holden described the performance as

“It’s really important what you just did because it’s easy to forget something like that with everything that’s going on in the world.

“For everyone who lost their lives and had all this c*** thrown at them, you’ve had the courage to come out here and pay tribute. You did something very special for them and for you.”

He went on to describe her performance as “a moment with a capital ‘M.’”

Fellow judge Holden said: “You were so terrified and so nervous but you delivered that song and it was effortless. You have a massive future ahead of you, that was stunning.”

Ant and Dec open the Britain's Got Talent show

BGT judge David Williams proved victorious at the National Television Awards on Tuesday, winning in the Best Judge category over his colleague Cowell.

The show’s presenters Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly scored another win, receiving the Best Presenter award for the 18th consecutive year.

Speaking live from the Britain’s Got Talent auditions, McPartlin said that the win was “a genuine shock especially this year,” following his 10 month career break in the wake of a stint in rehab and a drink driving conviction.

Britain's Got Talent will air on ITV in the spring.
