Britain's Got Talent hit with nearly 1,000 Ofcom complaints from unhappy viewers

Britain's Got Talent was hit by nearly a thousand Ofcom complaints over the weekend following the fifth semi-final of the show.

Unhappy fans reported the show to the broadcasting watchdog after Royal Variety hopeful Nabil Abdulrashid was criticised for taking jokes about race and religion "too far".

Nabil sailed through to the final after his stand-up act left the judges in stitches, which can be seen in the video above.

However, the North London funny man received 733 of the 892 complaints about the show to Ofcom, and revealed he has since been sent death threats following his act on Saturday night.

On Twitter, Nabil revealed some had "wished death" on him following his performance.

Judge Amanda Holden was also the target of more Ofcom complaints after the watchdog was hit with 235 complaints last week about her 'low cut' dress.

The 49-year-old was hit with a further 136 complaints after this weekends fifth semi-final after defiantly wearing a thigh high cut dress and lace corset number.

One person who commented on Amanda's photo of the dress on Instagram said it was "not required on a kids TV show", proceeding to call the singer and actress "desperate".

Britain's Got Talent is the UK's most complained about TV show of 2020 following Diversity's performance on the first semi-final of the show, when it returned to screens at the start of September.

The show now has more than 20,000 complaints following the 15,000 plus which submitted against Diversity's performance.

Ofcom later revealed they would not formally investigate the performance of the former Britain's Got Talent winners despite the high volume of complaints.
