Britain's Got Talent final - the clues why Colin Thackeray was always going to win

Britain’s Got Talent Final, ITV: 3 stars.

This year’s Britain’s Got Talent was just like this year’s Champions League.

The semi-finals were much more exciting, entertaining and memorable than the final - and the winner triumphed amid a sea of red.

In fact, if by the time you read this Colin Thackeray isn’t in the studio recording You’ll Never Walk Alone then Simon Cowell is not the ruthless opportunist we all know and love.

There was cheering - as Simon Cowell quickly calculated how quickly he could get Colin in the recording studio (ITV)

For a show boasting 5 magic acts in its line-up last night’s climax was surprisingly short on stardust.

The only act that had me out of my seat was Ben Hart - and that was only because his monsoon rain sound effects had a direct line to my bladder.

I know some people got excited about X unmasking himself but I’m afraid I’ve watched far too many Cowell productions to think that it was as big a shock to the judges as their faces tried to make out.

Ant and Dec were pretty happy with the winner (Dymond/Thames/Syco/REX)

Speaking of shocks, despite Dec’s best efforts to persuade us it would be “the most wide open final ever” I knew Colin Thackeray would win the minute I saw he was on last.

For all the controversy surrounding Amanda Holden’s potty mouth a more familiar F word was apparent on the judging panel last night - Favouritism.

The cheer that says it's all over, for this year anyway (ITV)

Not that I’d deny Colin his moment of glory. I just hope his wish to sing in front of his Queen will be granted.

After all the work he’s put in it’d be awful if he ended up with Andrew and Fergie.
