Britain’s Got Talent could be cancelled this year due to pandemic, says Amanda Holden

Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden has confirmed that this year’s edition of the show could be cancelled due to the pandemic.

ITV had previously announced that its hit reality competition was being postponed for an indefinite amount of time.

Filming for Britain’s Got Talent’s 15th series would ordinarily have started this month, though the current national lockdown has made production untenable.

Speaking on her Heart Radio Breakfast show, Holden was asked by co-presenter Ashley Roberts about the status of the series.

“Well, I personally think that we shouldn’t do [Britain’s Got Talent] without the fifth judge, which is you guys,” Holden responded. “We need the people behind us, it’s the one show where it does kind of suffer and I’ll be honest, we’ve been told it’s on hold, but then we’ve been told something different so I think it’s fluid.

“I think there are still discussions going on because it’s a big old show and there are a lot of people who are employed behind the scenes so it’s one that needs to be discussed a bit more in length.”

Holden has starred as a judge on the series since its beginning, currently sitting alongside Simon Cowell, David Walliams and Alesha Dixon.

The most recent series aired from April to October 2020.
