Filming on the Britain’s Got Talent Christmas Special has been postponed after crew members tested positive for coronavirus.
A Britain’s Got Talent spokesperson said in a statement: “As a result of a positive Covid-19 result received yesterday we have implemented our protocols and a number of crew members are self-isolating at home.
“As a result, we are unable to continue filming our BGT Christmas Special today and have taken the decision to postpone.
“The safety of all those involved in the show is our number one priority and we follow extensive Covid-19 related procedures to adhere to all Government guidelines.”
It is not currently known who has tested positive for the virus.
The Christmas special was to be filmed just days after the most recent series drew to a close, with musician and comedian Jon Courtenay taking the top prize - winning £250,000 and a spot at the Royal Variety Performance.
It was an emotional final, with the 46-year-old golden buzzer act falling to his knees when he was announced as the winner.
“I tried not to think about it because I am really bad at hiding disappointment,” he said upon his win. "This morning for the first time, this sounds really dramatic and I literally, woke up with an idea for a song for the Royal Variety Performance.
“I wrote it down and I tried not to think about it as being a sign because as I say it would be too much pressure.”
The news of a coronavirus outbreak on the set on BGT comes after the series was marred by a number of controversies.
Over 20,000 viewers took to the broadcasting watchdog over former BGT winners Diversity performing a powerful routine which paid homage to the ongoing Black Lives Matter movement.
Alesha Dixon’s BLM necklace, as well as Amanda Holden’s choice of dresses, also saw people issue complaints to Ofcom.
