Britain’s Got Talent Christmas special halted due to on set coronavirus outbreak

The Britain's Got Talent Christmas special was shut down this morning after at least three crew members tested positive for Covid-19.

The production was dramatically halted on the first day of filming for the one-off show, that was meant to air in December.

Staff members were reportedly told not to turn up to work and those that had been in contact with the virus were told to self-isolate.

The BGT bosses have decided to postpone production, however it is unclear when filming may resume on the show.

An insider has told The Sun that ITV bosses were taking no chances with the pandemic.

“It’s the last thing Britain’s Got Talent bosses would have wanted on day one of the new production," a source told the publication.

“Everything was ready to go so they’re gutted it’s immediately ground to a halt. Everyone was told to stay away and those involved now must self-isolate.

“They can take no chances, particularly with some of the returning winners potentially vulnerable.”

A spokesperson for the ITV talent show confirmed to the MirrorOnline that filming has been postponed after the crew members tested postive.

“As a result of a positive Covid-19 result received yesterday we have implemented our protocols and a number of crew members are self-isolating at home," the rep said.

“As a result, we are unable to continue filming our BGT Christmas Special today and have taken the decision to postpone.

“The safety of all those involved in the show is our number one priority and we follow extensive Covid-19 related procedures to adhere to all Government guidelines.”

This year the Britain's Got Talent audience was virtual (ITV)

The dramatic halt to filming comes just days after this year's winner was announced as Jon Courtenay.

Should the special go ahead, the Christmas show will welcome a host of former acts to perform in a festive celebration.

This year, the virtual audience was also meant to be made up completely of key workers that could watch the show from their homes and appear via video.
