Britain's Got Talent and Strictly set to go head to head in autumn TV battle

Two of the country's biggest TV shows look likely to go head to head in a huge ratings war this autumn.

The coronavirus pandemic has massively disrupted BGT's usual schedule with lockdown and a ban on mass gatherings meaning that its live shows can't follow audition episodes like they usually do.

This year's audition shows come to an end this weekend and it is now being reported that show bosses are planning to run its live semi-finals and final in September.

But that could mean a big TV dilemma for talent show fans as it looks set to clash with Strictly Come Dancing's launch show. A source told The Sun: “Both are hugely popular and this will split the audience if they are on at the same time.

“Both the Strictly launch show and the first proper dancing episode both air in September.

“But that’s when Simon Cowell and the BGT producers are planning on airing the semi-finals now they have their line-up locked in.

"They could try and air the semi-finals across a full week, but the final episode will likely clash with Strictly.”

Strictly itself could be forced to make some changes because of coronavirus, with socially distanced dance routines and a 'ban' on contestants over the age of 60 both mooted in recent weeks.
