Britain's Best Home Cook is looking for contestants in the Newcastle area to take part

Do you know a cook who serves up the best homemade classics? The sort of dishes you can't wait to get home to?

The BBC is looking for exceptional cooks to compete in the next series of Britain's Best Home Cook on BBC One, presented by Mary Berry, Claudia Winkleman and Chris Bavin. The show challenges 10 contestants to show their skill and flair, as they are asked to create perfect versions of their meals which define home cooking in 21st Century Britain, as well as putting their own spin on well-loved dinner table classics.

The dishes could be anything, from shepherd's pie to chicken curry, although they should be the meals that can be served seven days a week, but they should show touches of style and skill under pressure.

The show's producers have contacted ChronicleLive to say they would love applications from cooks in the Newcastle area. They will be holding auditions in Newcastle next month.

The 10 cooks picked for the show will take each other on over eight episodes.

The BBC says: "If you’re never happier than when you’re home cooking, and have your friends and family banging down your door for dinner then you are the cook we are looking for!"

Anyone interested in applying must fill an online form here by October 31 .
