Britain poised for three-month heatwave with mercury soaring into 30s C

The country could be on course for its hotter-than-usual summer with experts predicting a heatwave lasting three months.

Blazing temperatures are forecast to start by the middle of June with highs around 30C and the mercury could even climb higher as the summer progresses, BirminghamLive reports .

It’s great news for summer sports fans with Wimbledon and The Ashes on the way and the forecast will bring joy to festival revellers heading to Glastonbury and other music events across the nation.

The Met Office three-month forecast said: “For May-July, above-average temperatures are more likely than below-average.“

The probability the UK average temperature will fall into the warmest of our five categories is 45-50 per cent. The coldest of our five categories is five per cent.

“Long-range prediction systems show a consistent increase in the likelihood of high pressure, associated with warmer-than-average conditions.”

Forecaster Brian Gaze, of The Weather Outlook, added: “Blocking areas of high pressure suggest echoes of last year’s record summer, with 30C highs likely in June.”

But first there’s a risk of rain and thunderstorms with May predicted to come to a miserable end.

It could also be quite mild at times, but the outlook is changeable as the latest Bank Holiday weekend approaches.
