Britain First leader Paul Golding rejected for Conservative Party membership

Britain First leader Paul Golding has had his bid to join the Conservative party rejected.

The far-right figure tried to join the party in a bid to “solidify” Boris Johnson ’s grip on power.

But today Britain First released a letter sent to Mr Golding saying that his membership had been rejected by the Bexleyheath and Crayford Conservative Association.

The Conservative Party confirmed to the Mirror that his application to join had been refused.

In a statement Britain First said: "Whether or not Paul has been expelled, thousands of Britain First members and activists have joined and will play a huge role in future leadership elections."

In December when he made his application a Number 10 source said Golding could expect to be booted out.

They said: “While we welcome new members from a wide variety of backgrounds, we are vigilant against those seeking to join the party who do not share our aims.

“There is a process in place for local Conservative Associations to approve members who apply to join, or to reject those who do not share the Party’s values or objects.

"We support local Associations with this work to ensure they can and do take action where needed.”

In December, Golding said he had joined the local party in Bexleyheath and Crayford.

In a statement, he said: “I have joined the Conservative Party to help solidify Boris Johnson's control on the leadership, so we can achieve Brexit and hopefully cut immigration and confront radical Islam.

He added: “Boris referred to Muslim women wearing the Burka/Niqab as letterboxes, so he is obviously a populist nationalist under the surface, like the type of patriotism as promoted by Britain First.”
