A British woman plunged 13,600ft to her death after attempting to scale a mountain in Morocco last Tuesday.
The unnamed woman reportedly fell into a deep pit named Aslghi on Mount Toubkal after she took the climb without the help of a tour guide.
Local news site Akhbarona reported that the deceased woman was on an expedition to the region, accompanied by another British friend before she fell into a hole near the peak of Toubkal.
She was left seriously injured following the fall and died at the scene.
Aslghi near Tizi is one of the tallest points of the mountain and where climbers will often pose for photographs having reached the summit.
They reached Aslghi after having set off from Al Rovij to embark on their climb up the mountain, which usually takes hikers two days.
Akhbarona added that the tourists ventured by themselves and without a tour guide to reach the dangerous summit of Toubkal.
The same sources confirmed that the local authorities in the area recruited all the equipment required to get the tourist out of the bottom of the mountain crater.
Emergency services from Morocco's Royal Gendarmerie, Civil Protection and police rushed to the scene.
The woman's body was then transported from the mountain and an investigation into her death has been launched.
Mount Toubkal is some 40 miles south of Marrakesh and is the highest peak in the Atlas Mountains, Morocco, and all of North Africa.
It is a popular climb among backpackers and is also a good destination for skiers.
Despite its height, it is considered a relatively simple climb if you go with experienced guides who can carry equipment and food supplies.
In 2016, a British teenager named Connor Jarvis plunged to his death while trekking through the Atlas Mountains. His body was found on Mount Toubkal 12 days after he set off on a hike.
