A 20-year-old man has been killed in Spain after trying to cross the motorway at a notorious accident spot.
The man - believed to be British - is reported to have been on holiday in Marbella when he was hit in the early hours of this morning.
His identity has not yet been confirmed but Spanish newspaper Sur.es has reported that he was a British tourist.
A full investigation has been opened by police to determine the circumstances but it is understood that the man was knocked down by a car when he was trying to cross the motorway. Police confirmation is expected later today.
The incident happened on the A7 motorway in the direction of Cadiz and near the resort of Puerto Banus.
Emergency services were alerted at around 2am following reports a person had been struck by a car and was lying in the carriageway.
It has been reported that the area is a notorious blackspot where other people have been injured and killed. On these occasions, people tried to cross the road as a shortcut to the other side. At one stage a metal barrier was put up to restrict access.
Spain's traffic department confirmed the incident.
