Brit tourist, 48, dies after falling from Benidorm apartment block

A British man died in Benidorm after falling from a balcony.

Colin McGarry, 48, fell to his death sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Local police have confirmed they are aware of the incident, reports Belfast Live .

Devastated family and friends have been paying tribute to 48-year-old Mr McGarry, who lived in northern Belfast.

Speaking to the Irish News, fiancee Gail McMillan said: "When [I was told] I just stood there in disbelief.

"Right through the early hours into Sunday, I was just numb, I couldn't take it in. Yesterday and today, it's just getting harder now, because it is sinking in."

She described her partner of 26 years as "the most generous person" she knew.

"He has taken care of me all these years," she said.

She said Mr McGarry, a former boxer with Sacred Heart Boxing Club, had decided to go on the trip as it coincided with the European Cup clash between Liverpool and Spurs.

She last heard from him when he messaged after Liverpool won.

Mr McGarry's sister Lynette Brady described her brother as a "legend" and the "one you went to for advice".

Colin Bell from the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust, a charity that helps families in Ireland who have lost loved ones abroad, said the organisation was providing assistance.

The SDLP councillor for Oldpark, Paul McCusker, paid tribute to the family on social media.

"Deepest sympathies to the McGarry family from the Oldpark on the tragic death of Colin who died while on holiday in Spain, a big gentleman.

"My thoughts and prayers are with his heartbroken family at this extremely difficult time."
