Brit tourist, 31, drowns off Spanish coast after falling off pedalo

A British tourist has drowned after falling off a pedalo he had hired off the Spanish coast.

The 31-year-old was dragged out to sea where he got into difficulty.

Police and three ambulances were sent to the beach on the Spanish Costa Dorada.

Paramedics performed CPR on the rescued tourist, but were sadly unable to save him.

The incident took place on Sunday at around 5.40pm off the Regueral Beach.

It is located in the municipality of Cambrils in the province of Tarragona, in the north-eastern region of Catalonia.

According to local media, an eyewitness saw the unnamed Brit falling from a pedalo and being dragged out to sea.

The tourist was also said to be clearly struggling in the water as the witness called the emergency services.

According to reports, the beach had lifeguards operating during the incident and the displayed flags were green, suggesting the sea was safe.

It is currently unclear whether the local authorities are investigating the incident.

Last month, a five-year-old Georgian girl died off the La Pineda Beach in the same region when her rubber ring was dragged out to sea.

On April 30, an 83-year-old man drowned off the coast of Llosa in Cambrils near where the British tourist died.
