Brit teen dies on gap year after being knocked down by minibus in Laos

A Scottish teenager who died during a gap year trip has been described as "one in a million" by grieving friends.

Andy Towns is believed to have died after being knocked down by a minibus in Laos on Saturday.

The keen footballer, who played for North Merchiston FC as a youngster, was from Edinburgh.

The 18-year-old attended Boroughmuir High School, which has informed pupils of the tragedy.

On Twitter , Boroughmuir Seniors wrote: "Absolutely heartbroken.

"Andy Towns, one in a million, you'll never be forgotten.

"Rest easy brother."

He was on a gap year and was travelling in Laos when he was killed (Facebook)

A minute silence was held by Andy's former club, North Merchiston FC, ahead of all of yesterday's games to pay their respects.

North Merchiston FC Blacks - Under 13s tweeted: "The club is devastated to hear the loss of 18 year old Andy Towns.

"Andy was at the club for a number of seasons and will be sorely missed by all at the club."

Andy's family was too distressed to comment.
