Brit 'strip searched and held in US prison for three days while visiting boyfriend'

A British woman was strip searched and held in a US jail for three days during a visit to her boyfriend in Texas, she has claimed.

Sophie Frampton said she was kept without her medication after being detained when she went to see her American boyfriend Zaid Khayat, 25, in June last year.

The 30-year-old from Leigh-on-Sea, Essex,  was on her fourth visit to the city of Austin in the space of 11 months.

The couple met in Thailand in May 2017, Sophie revealed.

She had travelled to see Zaid in August 2017 and then twice in 2018, according to The Times.

But she put an Australian address on her visa, as she was in the country backpacking when she applied for the permit.

Upon arrival into America, she claims she was detained at the airport and then driven to jail.

After being told to strip prior to a search, she cried for three days straight in her cell.

Sophie said her migraine medicine was taken off her and officers showed her an electric chair while she was detained.

And because guards woke her at 4am and checked on her every 15 minutes, she claims she was unable to use her toilet in privacy.

The terrifying ordeal has left her needing counselling, she said.

She has been to five therapy sessions since returning to the UK.

The happy couple have since been reunited on trips to the UK and Canada.

Sophie's immigration case was one of 315 involving Brits in America last year, The Times revealed.

The country recently threatened to permanently close its border with Mexico after violence flared when hundreds of migrants tried to illegally gain entry into the States.

President Trump demanded the Mexican government deport thousands of migrants back to Central America.

He tweeted: “Mexico should move the flag waving migrants, many of whom are stone cold criminals, back to their countries. Do it by plane, do it by bus, do it anyway you want, but they are NOT coming into the U.S.A.

“We will close the Border permanently if need be.”

The Mexican authorities reacted by vowing to deport up to 500 who stormed the border.
