A British passenger has fallen from a cross-Channel ferry at the Port of Calais - narrowly missing the ship's propellers, according to reports.

According to the Voix Du Nord regional newspaper in France, the Brit fell from the vessel at the embarkation and disembarkation bridges of the P&O Ferries ship Pride of Burgundy.

The paper reports a witness saying that the person fell close to the propellers, before coming to the surface.

A lifeboat was launched to recover the victim who has been transferred to a Calais hospital , reports say.

A spokesman for P&O Ferries said: "There was an incident on the Pride of Burgundy today in which a passenger fell into the water in Calais harbour.

"They are unharmed."
