Brit man, 30, plunges to his death off cliff in Ibiza in front of friends

A 30-year-old British man has died in a horror plunge from a popular viewing point in Ibiza.

The man was with other friends and his partner in the Cala d'Hort viewpoint area of Sant Josep when he fell 150 metres.

A Civil Guard spokesman has confirmed that the dead man is British.

A source said the tourist, who was from Liverpool, had been drinking in the hours leading up to his death.

One said a vehicle the holidaymaker and his girlfriend are thought to have been using, had been towed away earlier in the day by local police.

Another said: “At one point he headed towards the rocks and grabbed hold of one and was hanging off and the next minute he was gone.”

The Civil Guard say they received a report that someone had fallen 450ft off a cliff near Torre des Savinar yesterday at 10.30pm.

Agents of the Civil Guard, Sant Josep Local Police, Firefighters and Civil Protection rushed to the scene but the man had died.

"The emergency teams confirmed the death of the young man after locating the body with the help of the Local Police drone," Ultimahora.es reports

Members of the Vertical Rescue Group (GRV) of the Ibiza Firefighters descended the cliff to get to the man but he was pronounced dead at the scene at 3.30am.

The Civil Guard helicopter has taken over the recovery of the body.

A Civil Guard spokesman said: “I can confirm a British man has died after plunging from cliffs in the Cala d’Hort area.

“The alarm was raised last night and his body was recovered this morning.

"The incident is still being investigated but there is nothing at the moment pointing to it being the result of foul play.”
