Teenage swimming sensation Maisie Summers-Newton set a new Paralympic record as she beat her idol Ellie Simmonds by more than seven seconds to claim another gold in Tokyo.
The 19-year-old produced the swim of her life as she clinched the Paralympic title with a time of one minute 32.34 seconds – the fastest she has ever completed the SB6 100m breaststroke.
Simmonds came home outside the medals in fourth, 7.6 seconds behind her ParalympicsGB team-mate and losing out on a place on the podium to Daomin Liu of China and US swimmer Sophia Herzog.
It's the second time this week she has been outshone by Summers-Newton, who named opening ceremony flag-bearer Simmonds as an inspiration to herself and many other para-athletes representing Great Britain in Tokyo.
She said: "I think Ellie's here – I don't want to speak on behalf of her – but I think obviously she's here for her fourth games just to really enjoy it and just to be with the team. I think that's what everyone aims for.
"She's inspired people like me and I'm sure all the other athletes here."
It's the Northampton swimmer's second gold medal of the games, after tasting success for the first time on Thursday following her success in the SM6 200m individual medley.
She will have the chance to take a third gold home from her maiden Games, when she once again competes against Simmonds in the S6 400m freestyle.
Summers-Newton said even she had been surprised by her success so far in Tokyo.
"Just incredible obviously, I have no words," she said.
"I don't think this one has sunk in as much as the medley because I really, really wanted it, so this one is just the icing on the cake definitely."
Her second success in the pool came after fellow ParalympicsGB athletes and husband and wife Neil and Lora Fachie set new world record times on the way to winning a gold medal each at the Izu Velodrome.
Neil and pilot Matt Rotherham knocked more than a second of the previous best time as they cycled to success in the men's B 1000m time trial.
Meanwhile, his wife Lora rode with Corrine Hall to win the B 3000m pursuit final by almost two seconds in Tokyo on Saturday.
