Brit Laura Plummer, freed from jail in Egypt, bursts into tears as she arrives back in UK

A British woman freed after being jailed in Egypt arrived back in the UK this afternoon in floods of tears.

Laura Plummer, 34, from Hull was released after a 14-month term in a Cairo prison for taking 290 Tramadol tablets into the country for her partner.

Ms Plummer was sentenced to three years in jail on Boxing Day 2018 but was later granted early release.

Her flight touched down at Heathrow Airport at on Tuesday where she was seen in tears alongside her two sisters.

Breaking down in tears as she arrived, Ms Plummer said: "I would like to thank everyone for supporting me through this, especially my family.

"Words cannot describe how I feel - I thought this would never end."

Her sisters described their reunion as the happiest day of their lives.

As she boarded her flight on Monday night, Ms Plummer said she had been marched into the airport by police and was not allowed to say goodbye to her Egyptian husband Omar Saad, 34, for whom she had brought the tablets.

Her local MP, Karl Turner said: “It was a terrible experience for Laura. She did not know what she was doing was illegal but she made a mistake and paid the price.”

Ms Plummer was arrested at the airport on October 9, 2017 when she flew into the Red Sea resort of Hurghada.
