Brit holidaymakers furious after missing flights home due to £39 Covid test delays

Furious holidaymakers claim a company contracted by the government to offer pre-flight Covid tests is so slow they've been forced to miss flights.

Brits claim to have had holidays "ruined" after the service failed to issue negative test result certificates in time for boarding.

Qured's 'fit-to-fly' pre-departure test service, which promises results in 20 minutes for £39, has been hit by a string of complaints.

Some frustrated travellers say their lateral flow tests were not sent out within the 24 hours advertised.

Others claimed the certificates were delayed so long they were not even able to take their flights and they had to cancel family holidays.

While some said they had been unable to get hold of the company to get answers as they tried frantically to get an update.

Twitter user Jo Sharman said she was in a "panic" in Portugal awaiting a late test certificate from Qured: "Did ‘return to the UK test’ yesterday - all went really well, however portal updated with negative result but no ‘certificate’ on the portal to download to adhere to government guidelines!"

Twitter user Suvash Chandra Rai tweeted that they had missed a flight due to missing Qured test results.

Trust Pilot was flooded with negative reviews for the service.

Reviewer J. Thomas wrote: "Best advice I can give ... DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

"We booked 3 pre departure COVID tests whilst out in Portugal.

"One negative certificate came back within the hour as guaranteed but other 2 results not received.

"I emailed Qured but they did not respond for hours and then their response was only to send another copy of the certificate I already had.

"You cannot contact them by phone at all. After emailed 7 times and explaining That 2 family members were at risk of not being able to catch their flight - NO RESPONSE.

"We had to queue at Faro airport for 4 hours the last day of our holiday to get emergency tests done.

"The service we received was non existent. Their response was only that they are ‘extremely busy’.

"Well don’t take our money and book our tests if you cannot support your sales with any level of customer service!!

"RUINED THE LAST DAY OF OUR HOLIDAY. TOTALLY UNRELIABLE."

Review Y. Jensen wrote: "I strongly advise you NOT to use this company. I should now be on a flight to Portugal having done the family’s PCR test on Friday morning.

"Results have still not arrived and I have had to cancel our family holiday. I could not even move tickets to the next flight as that would mean the pcr is over 72 hours.

"I emailed I called, no response...shocking. Qured should pay for my hotel charges and plane tickets."

Qured responded to complaints on social media apologising for delays.

In one tweet replying to a customer, a spokesperson for the company wrote: "Hello, Apologies for the delay in getting back to you, we have been dealing with an extremely high volume of patient enquiries so our response times have been slower than usual.

"Please DM us your booking details so we can look into this for you. Thank you."

The firm told The Sun: "While the timings of delivery and results are generally accurate, they are subject to change due to circumstances out of our control.”

The government was not able to comment on claims Qured was failing to deliver a speedy enough testing service.

However a spokesperson warned contractors that repeatedly fail to deliver services would get a five-day warning then face being axed from official supplier lists.

A Department for Health spokesperson said: “It is the responsibility of the relevant private provider to manage the availability of their tests.

“As we cautiously reopen travel we are closely monitoring the performance of private test providers to ensure they deliver a high quality of service to customers.

“If a provider is failing to meet the required standards, they receive a five day warning and are then removed from the gov.uk list of test providers if they do not improve.”

The Mirror has approached Qured for comment.
