Brit fears getting trapped in second Spanish lockdown after quarantine changes

A British woman is terrified of getting trapped in a second Spanish lockdown after the country was placed on the UK's quarantine list.

Sharon Read, 48, and her husband Jonathan flew to Spain this morning and were shocked when they heard about the coronavirus travel changes.

Mrs Read, from Chafford Hundred, Essex, organised a trip to their apartment in Calpe, in Alicante, for a well-earned break after months of lockdown.

Her sister, an ambulance driver, was supposed to join them in Spain, however she and her key worker boyfriend have now had to pull out.

Mrs Read told Mirror Online: "If they lock down the country again we might get stuck. That's the worst case scenario.

"My sister is really gutted about it, she booked it yesterday. They were supposed to go to Turkey last month, that was cancelled and now this.

"Them not working for two weeks is not great, they're not coming now."

The Brit added that her sister had been working hard on the frontline of the pandemic.

She and her husband decided to fly out to Spain to make the most of their apartment, which they had rented for a year.

They had not been able to stay in it since January and were looking forward to the break.

The Financial Ombudsman Service worker said: "We wanted to get away for a change of scenery as we've been working from home since the middle of March.

"It's been quite difficult staying between four walls. We were shocked when we heard the news (about the quarantine)."

Mrs Read, who is due to fly home on Friday, said her flight out from Gatwick was almost empty, although there were queues at the arrivals terminal in Alicante.

She added that lots of people were not social distancing at the airport.
