BRIT Awards viewers stunned as ITV fail to censor Daisy May Cooper's Sugababes joke

BRIT Awards viewers were left shocked after broadcaster ITV failed to censor a joke made on the show. One viewer commented: "thoughts and prayers to the 'Audio Muted' team".

The comment, made by actress and writer Daisy May Cooper, was at the expense of chart-topping group the Sugababes. The BBC This Country star and Sky Never Mind The Buzzcocks team captain made the jibe while presenting an award. However, ITV was too slow on the censor button to bleep out the joke and the comment aired - much to the surprise of viewers of Saturday's broadcast.

Daisy was presenting an award to the 1975 for best alternative or rock act. However, in the run-up to handing over the accolade to Matty Healy, the 36-year-old star remarked that earlier in the night, she was in the bathroom when she saw the Sugababes.

She then commented on the group having not taken drugs. Viewers at home and in attendance were stunned, reported Birmingham Live, adding ITV failed to censor the joke in time - but bleeped out the aftermath.

Turning to social media, one viewer said: "What! Bad muting there." Another added: "Got me screamin' why was that blurred out."

A third added: "The person on the censor button being too late to mute Daisy May Cooper’s audio #BRITs". The comments continued: "Thoughts and prayers to the “Audio Muted” team failing to mute Daisy May Cooper talking about the Sugababes in the toilets #BRITs."

Another social medial user added: "But it’s live Live LIVE - not!!! Most of it [has] felt soulless and dire. Hardly a smile to be seen. If you’re happy then let’s see your faces show it."

Earlier on in the evening, the Sugababes graced the red carpet. Close to the climax of the event, host Mo Gilligan was forced to apologise for "technical difficulties" that meant viewers were shown archive footage of Adele performing at last year's ceremony. It came ahead of David Guetta closing out the ceremony with a medley of his hits.
