Brit Awards 2020 receive hundreds of Ofcom complaints from viewers over Dave and Stormzy's performances

Hundreds of viewers have submitted complaints to Ofcom over the 2020 Brit Awards.

The 40th anniversary of the prestigious music awards took place on Tuesday February 18 at London's 02 and was broadcast live on ITV.

As well as handing out gongs, the ceremony featured stellar performances from the likes of Lizzo, Rod Steward, Dave and Stromzy.

And it was the latter two performers that caused the biggest reaction on the night thanks to their emotionally and politically charged performances.

Dave, who won the biggest award of the night for Best Album, used his slot at the awards to speak about the Prime Minister as well as Grenfell Tower victims and London Bridge terror attack victim Jack Merritt.

But the broadcasting watchdog confirmed to the Manchester Evening News that 257 complaints were made about the rappers performance.

Another 39 complaints were made about Stormzy's performance after he took to the stage to perform an epic medley of his tracks including Do Better, Own It, Wiley Flow and Rainfall.

The rapper and singer also added to his Brit Award haul by picking up the gong for British Male Solo Artist.

Another 39 complaints were also made which related to a variety of issues, Ofcom said.

The complaints will now be assessed against its broadcasting rules.

No decision has been yet as to whether they will investigate.
