Bristol woman's warning after being tricked by 'clever' iPhone phishing scam

A Bristol woman was tricked by a "clever" iPhone phishing scam which asked for her card details to authorise a payment.

Holly Thatcher, 35, received a text message which appeared to be from Apple shortly after making a purchase with Apple Pay.

The message included a link, which took her to a website and then asked for her Apple ID and bank details.

"I don't know whether it was a coincidence but the text message came just after I made a purchase with Apple Pay," the Portishead woman said.

"That's what initially made me think it was legit.

"I followed the link and the website asked for my card details and Apple ID."

However, after entering her details, Ms Thatcher then began to suspect something wasn't right and sent her brother screenshots of the text message and website.

She also searched for more information on Google and read that Apple never contacts users by text message.

"I just had a feeling," she said.

"I realised quite quickly it was a scam but a particularly clever one.

"I blocked my card and changed my Apple ID and also called Apple to report it."

Ms Thatcher added she wanted to raise awareness of the scam to avoid other people being tricked.

"The website looked professional but it wasn't real," she said.
