Bristol woman charged with controlling prostitutes from Brazil

Three people, including one person from Bristol, have appeared in court in connection with an investigation into human trafficking women from Brazil.

Rosana Gomes, 45, of High Six Gardens in Patchway was among the trio to appear at Bristol Magistrates Court today (February 11).

Gomes denied a charge of controlling prostitution for gain.

Also appearing was Lezlie Davies, 61, of Milennium Plaza in Cheltenham, charged with managing a brothel, and Waqas Khan, 38, of Parry Street in Leicester, charged with money laundering.

They also pleaded not guilty to the charges.

They will appear at Bristol Crown Court on February 28.

A fourth person, Mark Viner, 61, was extradited from his home in Barcelona last December to face eight charges as part of the same investigation into the trafficking of women from Brazil to work in brothels in Cheltenham.

He is currently remanded in custody awaiting trial.

The investigation was carried out by a South West Regional Organised Crime Unit.
