Bristol weather: When the Met Office says temperatures will be back in the 20s

After a gloriously warm period, the summer has lulled into a slightly disappointing spell in recent days.

The Met Office says that is going to change for Bristol - but we are going to have to wait a few days.

The forecast for today (Saturday, July 4) predicts highs of 18C, with rain until 11am.

And the rest of the day should be mostly dry, bar some showers at 2pm.

Sunday is set to be brighter, though the peak temperature is likely to be 18C again.

The skies should be sunnier, though cloudy spells are expected.

Similar weather is expected on Monday and Tuesday, but with slightly warmer highs of 19C.

And the Met Office forecasts temperatures to peak at 20C on both Wednesday and Thursday, with generally cloudy weather on both days.

In its long-range UK forecast from July 8 to 17, the Met Office says: "Remaining largely settled across most southern and southeastern parts on Wednesday with a good deal of warm sunny spells.

"Further north, there is an increasing chance of some rain arriving throughout the day, perhaps with strong winds. Looking further ahead, a continuation of the north/south split seems most likely.

"Northern and northwestern areas are expected to see further spells of rain, accompanied by strong winds, these possibily spreading to some other areas at times.

"Further south, there should be more in the way of dry weather, though even here, the possibility of some rain or showers still exists.

"Temperatures are likely to be below average for most northern areas, though hovering near or locally above in the south."
