Bristol weather: When the Met Office says Storm Aiden could hit

Enjoy Tuesday's clear blue skies and sunshine while you can, because downpours are going to lash Bristol for the rest of the week.

It will be another dry school run on September 29, as the Met Office is predicting five hours of sun from 8am until 1pm.

And by the afternoon, the mercury will climb to a seasonably warm 17C.

But experts warn Wednesday is going to be both colder and wetter, as a fearsome weather front begins sweeping across the Isles from the west.

Heavy rain is expected to batter our city between 1pm until 4pm, when temperatures will drop to 14C.

Met Office forecaster Marco Petagna suggested that Storm Aiden was on the cards in the coming days.

He said: “The Atlantic jetstream will really power up and could generate very wet and windy weather late in the week.

“Computer models show potential for deep areas of low pressure.”

Winds could reach up to 70mph when Aiden lands on Wednesday.

While Scotland is predicted to get the worst of the weather, all parts of the UK look in line for a battering to some degree.

South West forecast

Tuesday:

A largely dry day with plenty of sunny spells for much of the region. However, some coastal areas may see the odd shower at times. Feeling warm in the sunshine. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Cloud and heavy rain spreading eastwards Wednesday and turning windy. Sunny spells with locally heavy showers on Thursday and Friday with lighter winds. Turning wet and windy again Friday afternoon.
