Bristol weather: Pictures show destruction caused as Storm Francis batters region with 60mph winds

Pictures have emerged showing the destruction and havoc caused by Storm Francis yesterday (August 25).

The city was battered by 60mph winds, spelling travel disruption on some of the major roads.

This morning (August 26), Storm Francis had left a trail of destruction in its wake - including fallen trees in Clifton and Bishopsworth.

A large tree on Birdcage Walk in Clifton was blown over as winds reached up to 60mph and still lies in the area, blocking the path.

The entire tree has been uprooted from the ground and it is not yet known when the fallen obstacle will be cleared.

In another part of the city, Cris Filer got in contact with Bristol Live to say that his parent's walnut tree had also blown over.

It fell down on Grange Road in Bishopsworth, from where it had stood for more than five decades.

He said: "Its a rare black walnut tree over 50 years old.

"There is now a homeless family of squirrels who had a great supply of nuts year round."

The turbulent weather has also had an impact on a local family attraction.

The Wild Place Project has been forced to temporarily close because of the high winds which caused a number of trees to fall down at the site.
