Bristol weather: Met Offices predicts last day of sunshine before downpours

Enjoy your final day of sunbathing in the sun today (Tuesday), because downpours are set to batter the city tomorrow.

Forecasters are predicting another warm day, with the mercury peaking at 21C. Five hours of sunshine is expected between 8am to noon, before clouds move in.

By Wednesday, temperatures are going to drop by five degrees, and rain will hit the city throughout most of the afternoon.

And it's set to turn even colder on Thursday, with highs of just 13C expected.

BBC meteorologist Susan Powell said there are some "big changes to come in our weather in the next five days", despite summer having "clung on through the weekend".

"By mid-week it will be much cooler, much windier, and for many, wetter as well.

"The reason for the change - we lose the persistent area of high pressure.

"That will still be with us for Monday and Tuesday, [but] areas of low pressure will take over from the Atlantic, eventually dragging in Arctic air," she said.

Behind the cold weather front, it will be feeling "noticeably cooler" and another front moving in on Thursday will introduce a northerly wind.

South West forecast

Tuesday:

Cloud continuing to spread across the region through the day, with outbreaks of patchy light rain and drizzle. Turning breezier and noticeably cooler than recent days for most. Maximum temperature 22 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Early cloud and rain on Wednesday clearing to sunny spells and showers later. Cool with heavy and blustery showers at times through Thursday, before turning drier on Friday.
