Bristol weather: Met Office Reopening Day forecast for pub beer gardens and queues outside Primark and hairdressers

People who like shopping for non-essential things will be emerging blinking into the light as the shutters are rolled up on stores such as Primark on Monday.

April 12 has been a date etched into the consciousness of many as the long roadmap out of lockdown continues.

As people go out and about today, all eyes will be on the weather – especially if they are looking to have a pint in a pub beer garden, queue outside the barbers, or wait patiently to enter shops if they are busy on this first day.

The Met Office is forecasting sunny spells from 7am when Primark reopens in The Horsefair in Bristol and the rest of the morning looks to be dry, with some light showers over lunchtime.

So if are planning a lunchtime meal in a pub beer garden, be prepared to get a little wet.

There could be some heavy showers from 3pm to 5pm, with the rain easing and then disappearing into the evening. The temperature will reach a high of 9C.

It's a slightly better picture painted by the BBC in its weather forecast for Bristol.

It has a cloudy morning then sunny intervals into the afternoon and early evening - and no rain at all. Temperatures will hit a high of around 9C.

Met Office South West forecast

Today: A cold start to the day with sunny spells but also some showers in the west. Showers breaking out more widely during the afternoon, but easing by the evening to leave clearing skies. Feeling cold, although warmer in any sunshine. Maximum temperature 10 °C.

Tonight: Clear and dry this evening but some patchy cloud and the odd isolated shower arriving through the early morning. Feeling cold with a widespread frost. Minimum temperature -2 °C.

Monday: A frosty start for some but cloud and showers spreading from the north during the morning. These showers will ease through the evening leaving a fine night. Maximum temperature 11 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday: Rather cloudy with occasional showers on Tuesday and Wednesday although some sunny spells too. Dry with some sunshine on Thursday. Gradually becoming milder.
