Bristol weather: Met Office forecast as mini-heatwave continues

Temperatures will stay above 20C for the next few days as the UK continues to experience a mini-heatwave.

With Bristol seeing 22C over the weekend, it seems the warm weather is here to stay - at least for now. Temperatures will today (May 16) reach 21C, according to the Met Office, while tomorrow (May 17) they could climb up to 22C.

On Wednesday (May 18), they will drop to 20C before then staying between 18C and 19C for the rest of the week. Weather-wise, today will be a cloudy but dry day, with some sunshine being forecast for this afternoon.

Tomorrow Bristol will see sunny intervals changing to cloudy in the afternoon, with a similar picture being forecast for Wednesday. However, Thursday and Friday will see a cloudy start of the day followed by some sunny intervals by late morning on Thursday and by early evening on Friday.

Experts say rain will hit most regions later in the week, reports the Mirror. Met Office chief meteorologist Andy Page said: “The plume of warm air we’ve been expecting from the south will bring higher temperatures across the whole country over the next week.”

Many people will enjoy warm sunny spells but heavy showers are set to move across the whole of the country, particularly in the North and West.

Forecaster Aidan McGivern said: “If we get some sunshine and this plume, temperatures could be rising. But it brings the threat of thundery outbreaks. In some places, it would just be rain but for central and southern England, and the south coast there is the risk of heavy downpours, thunderstorms and lightning.”

It follows a yellow weather warning for storms for Bristol which was issued for Sunday evening.

Here is the Met Office weather forecast for the South West for the next few days:

Today

Starting cloudy with a few scattered showers this morning. Turning sunny in the afternoon with light winds. Feeling warm across the region in the strong sunshine. Maximum temperature 20 °C.

Tonight

Staying dry tonight with clear skies at first. Cloud building from the west with a few showers in Devon and Cornwall by the end of the night. Minimum temperature 11 °C.

Tuesday

Largely dry and bright at first, however skies will cloud over in the afternoon with thundery rain moving into the west. Maximum temperature 24 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday

Dry with sunny spells on Wednesday, heavy rain overnight. Dry and sunny on Thursday, feeling fresher. Cloudier on Friday with showers.
