Bristol weather: Heavy rain on Saturday with few showers on Sunday

The weather forecast from the Met Office for the UK for Saturday and the weekend is one of sunshine and showers.

After a wet weather front moved across the country overnight on Friday into Saturday, the day will begin cloudy and with rain imminent, which the forecasters are predicting will arrive at around 8am.

There'll be heavy rain for many during the morning, but by lunchtime the pattern of the day will be established - spells of sunshine and heavy showers.

Some places will be lucky and avoid the rain, others will be unlucky and have a wet day.

The rain should peter out by dusk at around 8pm, at the end of a cool and showery day - temperatures will struggle to get up to 19degC - well below average for the time of year.

It will stay largely dry overnight on Saturday, and Sunday will see a few showers, but with less frequency and intensity than the day before.

The forecast doesn't, however, include the prospect of thunderstorms - something the Met Office on Thursday evening had thought might be possible on Saturday afternoon.

The outlook for the week ahead is for a wet Monday and getting progressively drier as the week goes on.
