Bristol weather: Heavy downpours to make way for sunny spells

Heavy downpours expected in Bristol today are set to make way for sunny spells later in the week, the Met Office has said.

Forecasters say today (Wednesday, August 18) will see outbreaks of heavy rain changing to cloudy conditions by early evening.

Tomorrow looks a lot more positive however, with sunny spells expected throughout most of the day.

The wet and windy weather is then set to return to the south west later in the week, with Friday turning windier with heavy showers.

Today's Met Office forecast for the south west says: "Wet and breezy start with rain over most of the region, sometimes heavy, clearing west through the afternoon.

"Some hill fog persisting through the day, though sunny spells develop elsewhere. Maximum temperature 22C."

The outlook for Thursday to Saturday then says: "Thursday remains breezy with sunny spells and a few showers.
