Bristol weather: Downpours will lash city before thunderstorms arrive

Downpours will lash Bristol again today (Thursday) before thunderstorms hit the city this August Bank Holiday.

Experts at the Met Office say rain will batter our city between 3pm to 5pm today.

It will also feel a little cooler with the mercury dipping to 17C - this compares to Wednesday's highs of 21C.

On Friday, lightning and thunder will arrive at around 10am, before more downpours.

Earlier this week, Storm Francis caused chaos when the city was battered by 60mph winds.

Trees in Clifton and St George park were toppled in the gusts.

Met Office forecaster Craig Snell said: "Francis has now pretty much moved off shore and it's now just a slow gradual improvement."

The strongest gusts recorded on Tuesday was the 81mph wind that hit The Needles, near the Isle of Wight at around 8pm.

This is just short of the August record for the UK, which was 87mph recorded in 1996.
